Chapter Updates

Sunday, April 27

The last few months have been a roller coaster of up and downs and hurdles for many individual brothers and the chapter as a whole, but as the school year winds down, everything has seemed to piece together perfectly.

The weekend of April 10-13 was MIT's Campus Preview Weekend (CPW). We housed around 10 pre-frosh at 532 Beacon Street, and we were able to meet and befriend many future MIT students who we would love to see at MIT during rush next year. On Friday night, we hosted the Sigma Chi Top Gun Party were we gave away free aviator glasses and played Top Gun - the 1986 movie starring Tom Cruise - on half a dozen TVs and monitors around the house. The library was stripped down and turned into a dance floor, which was packed with enthusiastic dancers all night.

On April 21, we co-hosted a Boston Marathon Day Party with Phi Sigma Kappa on Commonwealth Blvd. Numerous MIT students and Sigma Chis created a massive group next to the marathon course to cheer on Phillip Samayoa ('09), Caine Jette ('10), and Dominik Kmita '10) - three Sigma Chi brothers brave enough to run all 26.2 miles - as they pushed on through their final mile into Copley Square.

All our brothers are taking advantage of great opportunities this summer. Doug Halket ('09) and Scott Pollom ('09) are going to Chicago to work for a trading company. Eric Reuland ('10) and Dominik Kmita ('10) are flying to Munich, Germany and Dusseldorf, Germany, respectively, for different work opportunities. Other brothers are doing UROPS on the MIT campus or working for consulting firms in the Boston/Cambridge area and will be living at the house, which will be inhabited by just brothers and female summer boarders and should be a fun and relaxing experience for all.

Hopefully we can all finish the year strong with Sigma Chi elections next week, and finals and graduation in less than a month.

Sweetheart

Monday, December 3

We held our Sweetheart Ball two weeks ago on the 17th of November, celebrating our new 2007 Sweetheart, Teagan Andres. It was at the newly renovated MIT museum. We had a delicious dinner. We got to hear our brothers sing creative renditions of songs from our childhood. And we got to play with all the new "toys" and exhibits in the museum. Our dates were beautiful, and quite frankly, we all looked dashing.

From the MIT museum we took two yellow school buses to the Boston Ice Rink and ice skated until our toes and ankles started to bleed. The ladies were impressed by our ice skating talent. To top off the night we came back to the house for a refreshing and entertaining Champagne breakfast.

Sweatheart was incredible but now finals and the Holidays are coming up. Hopefully, we can power through the hard part so that we can quickly enjoy home, family, and a well earned break.

Good luck on finals and Happy Holidays!

School Is Back Already

Sunday, September 23

Summer is over and we're all back to the seemingly endless grind.

We had an exceptional work week. Ben Pope '08 lead us as we cleared out the closets, refinished most of the floors, rebuilt rotting ceilings, and painted, polished and scrubbed every surface.

Rush was also a success. We have seven outstanding pledges who are enthusiastic and extremely fun. In pledge order:

  • Spencer James Albert Currie
  • Garrett Lee Winther
  • Brandon DeWayne Briscoe
  • Pall Magnus Kornmayer
  • Eric Joseph Roselli
  • Michael Joseph Dobson
  • Matt Frederick Luchette

Welcome, to the pledges, and good Luck to everyone in all your classes!
