The Chapter Today

Alpha Theta is and always has been constructed of some of the strongest leaders of campus. Currently, our chapter is host to two varsity captains, presidents of the E-Club, Plush Daddy Fly, the MIT Logarhythms, and MEET, and the Boy Scouts of America's Antarctic Scout. We had the sixth highest GPA of all the FSILGs last spring, and Adam Miller '06 won a prestigious Gates Scholarship to study physics at Cambridge University before he begins his PhD program. Quick Facts

  • We have perhaps the most consistant recruitment program of all the fraternities at MIT, rushing anywhere from 9 to 12 brothers every year since 2002. This year, we gave out 12 bids and received 11 pledges, many of whom were cross-rushing with other houses. All 11 will become brothers at I on Sunday, February 4.
  • In Fall 2006, the house's GPA was 4.40. The all-FSILG average was 4.27, and the all-IFC average was 4.19. We had the fourth highest GPA out of all the FSILGs, good enough to earn us a spot on the FSILG honor roll.
  • In Spring 2007, there will be 24 brothers living at 532 Beacon St. along with an RA.
  • At the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop (BLTW) this summer, Alpha Theta was awarded its 31st Peterson Chapter Award, as well as the Legion of Honor award for our chapter scholarship program. Alpha Theta has been awarded the most Peterson awards out of any Sigma Chi chapter.
  • The chapter last hosted Derby Days in Fall 2005. The festival raised $1,000 for the Children's Miracle Network. The next Derby Days will take place immediately after the 125th Anniversary Reunion, in conjunction with MIT's Spring Weekend. This partnership will give Derby Days far greater visibility.
  • Our chapter maintains the highest average of all the Sigma Chi chapters in the international organization. For Spring 2006 (the latest compiled at this time), the rankings were:
    1. MIT - 4.430 (3.430 on a 4.0 scale)
    2. Colorado College - 3.385
    3. Duke - 3.381
    4. Berkeley - 3.380
    5. Northwestern - 3.351
    6. John Hopkins - 3.350
