Banquet

Over 300 people attended the 130th Anniversary Banquet held at the Westin Copley Place hotel in Boston. Dressed in black-tie and ballgowns, brothers, sweethearts, family, and friends celebrated Alpha Theta's past, present, and future.

Celebrating 130 Years at MIT

Corporate Board President Dan Craig '03 welcomed everyone with a brief glimpse of life at MIT when Alpha Theta was founded in 1882. Back then, MIT was still on its original campus across Copley Square and had just 368 students.

Times have certainly changed since then, but Alpha Theta has thrived, especially through the transition to freshmen living on campus ten years ago.

Tribute to Brian D. Robertson '96

Days before Christmas 2011, Brian D. Robertson '96 was killed in a plane crash. A serial entreprenuer and visionary, Brian touched the lives and launched the careers of dozens of Alpha Thetas spanning the decades. In only 38 short years, Brian lived more than many hope to in an entire lifetime.

Sean Beckett '97 offered a remembrance of BDR, along with Brian's sister Julie Chang, father David Robertson, and wife Eileen Robertson.

Walter VonKoch '97 and Consul Sean Burke '13 then made a surprise presentation to Eileen of a Grand Consul's Citation honoring Brian's life and legacy as a Sigma Chi.

Beacon to the Future Campaign

How Alpha Theta Came To Live At 532 Beacon Street

In 2014, Alpha Theta will celebrate 90 years of owning 532 Beacon Street, and 95 years of occupancy. Our beloved chapter house has provided a home for nearly 1,000 Sigma Chis. The Beacon to the Future campaign for the renovation of 532 Beacon Street aims to ensure that future Sigma Chis will have a first class living and learning environment for at least another fifty years.

Corporate Board President and history buff Dan Craig '03 told the story of how the chapter came to live at 532 Beacon Street.

"Why I Am Supporting Beacon to the Future"

After many years of quiet preparation, the Beacon to the Future campaign for the renovation of 532 Beacon Street was formally launched earlier in the spring 2012. Capital Campaign Co-Chair Karl Büttner '87 reported on the tremendous momentum of the campaign so far due to the genrousity of time and resources of hundreds of dedicated alumni.

Four major contributors and two graduating seniors then spoke on why they personally are committed to Alpha Theta and the Beacon to the Future campaign. Every brother has his own unique experience of the house, but many see their time at the house as one of the most important parts of their time at MIT and ever since.
