Developing Leaders for the Future
Alpha Theta Sigma Chi was a central component of our MIT experiences and helped make each of us who we are today. "I wouldn't have made it through MIT without Alpha Theta and my brothers," is a sentiment many of us share.
Alpha Theta Sigma Chi has provided generations of MIT students with the supportive environment, learning experiences outside the classroom, leadership development opportunities and friendships that have proved so critical and central to brothers' lives during and -- just as significantly -- after MIT.
Today, the opportunity to provide this same value and experience to MIT students is just as relevant and needed as it has been for the past 130 years. With alumni support, we can continue to provide future generations of MIT students the same incredibly valuable Alpha Theta experience we all shared.
With our support, Alpha Theta can continue to help MIT produce leaders that will serve the world for decades to come.
Alpha Theta is Strong Today
The young men at Alpha Theta today are an extraordinary group, and the chapter continues to be one of the strongest fraternities at MIT. The brothers are remarkably well-rounded and diverse in their interests. There is a strong commitment to academic excellence (consistently ranking in the top tier of fraternities, and achieving the top Fraternity GPA [4.47] in spring 2011) and also a broad involvement with activities and athletics, student government, and a healthy social component.
Although freshmen have been required to live in on-campus dormitories for the past several years, the number of men joining fraternities has actually increased during the past five years. Pledging still occurs prior to the start of freshman year, and pledges are therefore integrated into the chapter from the start of their time at MIT. Pledges spend a great deal of time at the house, from dinners to studying and social functions, and they participate in chapter activities such as intramural sports and community service.
Alpha Theta has held very successful rushes every year, consistently attracting fine young men of excellent caliber who are drawn to Sigma Chi by the strength of the brotherhood and the rich history of the chapter. Even with freshman living on campus, the house remains filled to near capacity.
