Beacon To The Future

Campaign Honor Roll

We Did It!!

With amazing support from alumni across many decades, the Capital Campaign was a resounding success!

The Chair Challenge!

Part of the Beacon to the Future Capital Campaign included the "Chair Challenge." Alumni who pledged $25,000 or more and pledge classes who collectively pledged $50,000 or more have their names engraved on plaques on the backs of dining room chairs.

Although the challenge and the campaign were very successful, and every chair now has at least one name on it, there's always room for more -- so it's never too late to participate!

Giving to the Campaign

If you have questions, please contact your Class Agent or one of the Era Captains listed here. If you do not see a familiar name among the class agents or era captains, or have questions they cannot answer, feel free to contact Capital Campaign Administrative Chairman Karl Büttner '87 at kbuttner@alum.mit.edu.

PLEDGED GIFTS MAY BE GIVEN OVER FIVE YEARS

Because of the magnitude of our goal, we have structured a five-year payment period to make it possible for brothers to increase the size of their campaign pledges. Pledges made during the campaign will be counted toward the campaign totals.

Gifts that are NOT tax deductible (see below for tax deductibility) may be given directly to Alpha Theta Sigma Chi through the campaign committee.

Checks should be made payable to:

TAX DEDUCTIBILITY

Although Alpha Theta Sigma Chi is a nonprofit organization, direct gifts are not tax-deductible. However, through an arrangement with The Society for the Preservation of Greek Housing (SPGH), a 501(c)(3) organization, brothers can make donations to preserve our historic 532 Beacon Street home that may be fully tax-deductible. Note that, due to the limitations of this program, there is a minimum pledge amount of $10,000 to take advantage of tax deductibility. Please contact Dorothy Wysocki at (607) 533-9200 to discuss the SPGH/tax-deductible opportunity further.

PHILANTHROPY TIPS

Donor advised funds (DAF), available through banks such as Fidelity or Schwab, allow philanthropists potential advantages in making gifts of cash or stock, including audit- worthy accounting for disbursements to qualifying 501(c) (3) organizations and the ability to take an immediate deduction while delaying disbursement (for example, in the case of appreciating investments). You may want to investigate the possibility of opening a DAF. Disbursements to the SPGH from a DAF are simple and routine.

Many companies offer matching-gift programs. If you (or your spouse) work for a company with such a program, contact the company personnel department for information on how to augment your gift to this campaign.

Bequests, gifts of appreciated stock, and the addition to life insurance policies are also welcome forms of generosity. Please contact Dorothy Wysocki at (607) 533-9200, to work out the details.
